hello david,
I am personally interested in purchasing Roger's Digital Cable. The main reason is because of their promise my ability to view all sporting events. I have two questions for you. Number one: is it actually true that i get every single game? and secondly, what do you mean you had to change your personal theatre system around. I would appeciate a response from you as soon as you are available.
Thank you,
Darcy Whyte.
Darcy,
I think that Rogers has a number of "Premium Sports Packages" including NFL Sunday Ticket, NHL Centre Ice and MLB Extra Innings that guarrantee all games, but you'd have to check the details of each of these services with Rogers. I have the timeshifting, which gives me access to stations across Canada and the US and there are often other NFL games on each Sunday. But this is definitely not all (every single) game by any means.
Regarding altering my home theatre setup, I had to remove the TiVO from my configuration and I had to add a connection from the digital cable box to the home theatre to get 5.1 surround. This is not so much an issue, but it is just one more cable that is back there. I really want a high performance "Bluetooth-like" way to connect stereo components without adding wires and cables (e.g., HomeRF).
Cheers, David
You're right, they are intentionally limiting capabilities. I was amused to see "television, home theatre system" without any acknowledgement to the trend of hooking up your computer. I'd sure like to be able to use my projector without resorting to SVGA output.
I go back and forth about using my computer and my home theatre together. Since my 5 year old Sony DVD player crapped out about a month ago, I've been using my Powerbook to play DVD movies. But I find that I really just want a dedicated device (with hardware level decoding) for playing movies. I like to sit on the couch and surf the web while watching Indiana Jones.
I really want an all-in-one home theatre system that does everything DVD, MP3, Dolby5.1, radio, TiVo, etc. But I want to be able to connect to it over 802.11 and configure and manage it using my Mac (so that probably means and embedded http server that uses FLEX or Royale or Avalon for a thicker client UI).
Hey guys;
I am a big proponent of digital television, not just rogers but dvds as well. 3 years ago I built my own PC, dolbey, integrated home theatre system and of course it didn't live up to my expectations (it never does)...okay enough with the introduction, here's the beef:
Unless you're willing to shell out the extra $20/mo for a Rogers digital box WITH PVR, then you're stuck being only able to record on your VCR, what you watch. Huh?!! Did we just jump back 30 years?? Ever since VCRs came out we have been able to watch one program and tape another up until today. There is no way (unless you get a second Rogers box) to record one program while watching another. Erggg! I spend 3 hours rewiring my system and the ripped it out again. I will be putting it in the spare room on the 14" incase company wants digital TV. For now I will keep my main system cable so I can watch and record simultaneously!
Nutz huh?! :p
