OCRI appears on the surface to do some very positive things for Ottawa and region entrepreneurs. Along with Communitech in the Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge area, it is something other regions could benefit from.

Regarding mega-services. Ugh, I think we'll have to agree to disagree. I think these efforts are futile wastes of time and money. It's only something that could come out of a government town like Ottawa.

You should read:

<ul>
<li>* Annalee Saxenian's The New Argonauts</li>
<li>* Richard Florida's Who's your city</li>
</ul>

I think you're very wrong and this mega-regional approach is SUPER FLAWED!

Re: ExperienceTech!2008

'The efforts and transformation of the MaRS to be inclusive, to be interactive, to celebrate the work of the community . MaRS has embraced these concepts.'

Toronto is showing the country that knowledge based economic development starts with community but grows stronger when organizations like MaRS augment their programs with community based strategies that raise collective knowledge (E101) and connect people across functional expertise (experiencetech2008).

My only wish is that more cities (like Ottawa) would recognize the power of this model & and that cities would co-operate more on delivering services that help foster community and knowledge of companies beyond their immediate borders.

I believe in a global economy that there is strength in leveraging regional communities.
